Jett Plasma (Saggy Eyelid Treatment)

New to Laser Skin & Vein Clinic, the Jett Plasma Lift™ treatment is a non-surgical upper blepharoplasty. It results in immediate visible skin-tightening without the need for surgery.

What is Jett Plasma and how does it work?

The Jett Plasma Lift uses electric discharge, more specifically plasma exerese technology. Plasma is the fourth state of matter in which the molecules are in the ionised form. Plasma discharge is created by creating an arc between the tip of the Jett Plasma device and the treatment area on the skin using high voltage but very low current.

The plasma process restores the electric potential of the cell membrane. As a result, the cells are rehydrated and the skin becomes firmer.

Jett Plasma Lift is the only device using this next-generation technology for skin tightening and collagen stimulation. It enables the skin to produce a significant amount of collagen and tighten, especially in those areas where previously there was no  effective non-surgical treatment.

It is especially effective in ‘lifting’ droopy upper eyelids and reducing deep lines (rhytides). Jett Plasma Lift is a medical device that can only be operated by trained health professionals.

What areas can be treated with Jett Plasma?

The Jett Plasma can be used on any part of the skin, and is particularly suited to treatment of the upper eyelid (non-surgical upper blepharoplasty), reducing sagging and tightening the area.

It can also be used reduce fine lines and wrinkles on the face or body, such as smoker’s lines, facial lines, the belly button area, thighs, cleavage and décolletage. Additionally, it may be used to remove warts and skin tags. Lastly, it may be used to correct scarring (including acne scarring), skin laxity and hyper-pigmentation.

The Jett Plasma Treatment Process

Prior to treatment, the area is cleaned and a local anaesthetic will be applied either by injection or a topical cream. Once the area has numbed, the treatment will begin. This involves creating a series of treatment dots across the skin being treated. These dots are made when a spark crosses from the Plasma Jett tip to the skin. Some heat is created in the process but as the area has been numbed, it should result in little to no pain.

This spark creates a response in the skin, leading to collagen induction/production and the subsequent rejuvenating effect. As a result of the electric voltage, a cascade of physiological processes occur which result in the cell membranes tightening. When the majority of cells in the treatment area tighten up, it is visible to the naked eye. This treatment does not involve any cutting, injecting, burning or removal of skin or tissue. It is particularly good at working on small areas of heavily-lined skin such as upper and lower eye, ‘smoker’s’ lines over the mouth and accordion lines on the cheeks.

Once treated, the Doctor will apply some cream to the area. There will be small visible brown dots across the skin that look like dots left by a pen. The area should be kept clean for 24 hours with no make up applied. Post that period, make up can be applied, as should SPF sunscreen if you cannot avoid sun exposure. Over the next few days, the brown dots will crust and should be left to fall off by themselves.

What are the side effects of Jet Plasma treatment?

The side effects are immediate and may include swelling, bruising and reddening of the treated area. This generally lasts two to three days. The healing process will include crusting (which should be left to fall away naturally) over the course of about a week.

Treatments can sometimes lead to more prolonged redness and swelling while the skin recovers. This is more likely when the eye lids or areas close to the eye are treated. Some people can take up to 10 days to fully recover. Makeup can be applied as cover where needed but should not be applied for 24hrs after the treatment.

How painful is a Jett Plasma treatment?

Prior to treatment, a local anaesthetic (injection or cream) is applied to the area. therefore, pain from the treatment should be minimal. There may be mild discomfort during the healing process, which should be easily managed with over the counter pain medication.

Why undertake this treatment?

The primary benefits of the Jett Plasma treatment are skin tightening, wrinkle reduction and smoothing of the skin surface. This occurs as the Jett Plasma creates a reaction in the tissues, stimulating new collagen formation and increasing elastin production.

Most people have a noticeable improvement in one treatment, but up to three treatments are required. You can expect to look younger and refreshed, while over time your skin will respond naturally by building more collagen and increasing elastin production. This treatment does not involve cutting, injecting, burning or removing of skin or tissue.

How long does a Jett Plasma treatment take?

The treatment time is relatively short, taking 30 minutes. However, we allow an hour to cover preparation, anaesthesia and the treatment itself.

How do I arrange a consultation/treatment?

Jett Plasma treatments are performed by our in-house doctor, Dr. Mary Lipton, who prefers to see you for a consultation to discuss this treatment before proceeding with it. During the 20 minute consultation, she will assess your areas of concern and advise if the treatment is suitable for you. She will discuss the treatment, outline the process, advise what outcome you should expect and explain the cost of treatment.

Aftercare

You have now completed your treatment for Jett Plasma and should follow the below aftercare instructions.

There may be some downtime for this treatment, which can be up to a week.

Immediately after, you may experience swelling, bruising and reddening of the treated area. This generally lasts two to three days. The healing process will include crusting (which should be left to fall away naturally) over the course of about a week. There may be some occasional weeping of the area and this is normal.

Please see the following:

  • Do not exercise for 48 hours after treatment and avoid any heat steam or sweat.
  • Do not pick at the crust – let it fall off on its own.
  • Use a gentle cleanser on the face and avoid any exfoliates until the scabs have gone and the area has healed.
  • Avoid swimming in chlorinated water.
  • Avoid sun exposure and apply sunscreen SPF 50+ once the scabs have fallen off. Wear a hat whilst the area is still healing to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.
  • Avoid using any active ingredient skin care products, such as Retinol (Vitamin A) and Vitamin C, for the next week until your scab has fallen off and you’re starting to heal.
  • Men should avoid shaving the treated area for at least 7 days so it can heal.
  • Do not wax the eyebrows if you have had the eye area treated for at least one month or longer until the area has healed. You can pluck unwanted hair from this area with tweezers.
  • Makeup can be applied as cover where needed but should not be applied for 24 hours after the treatment.
