Dr. Mary Liston
Dr. Mary Liston obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science in Medical Laboratory Science (with Distinction) from the Charles Sturt University and had a 15 year career in diagnostic pathology before deciding on a career change, returning to university to study Medicine. Graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from Flinders University in 2001, and then gaining FRACGP in 2006. While working in rural general practice, Dr Mary, developed a special interest in dermatology and skin cancer medicine as well as rural trauma and emergency medicine. This interest led to taking a position as a GP Consultant with SA Health in an outer metropolitan hospital Emergency Department.
Joining LSV, part time, in January 2018, reducing to part time in the Emergency Department, Dr Mary has been able to utilise her knowledge and skills, not only from rural general practice and the ED, as well as the years in diagnostic pathology to offer a comprehensive and holistic approach to patient care. Dr. Mary utilises digital photo dermatoscopy, incorporating total body imaging and mole mapping that enables a digital record of lesions on the body for comparison at subsequent skin check examinations using the Dermengine platform..
At LSV, Dr Mary uses the advanced technology of the K Blue Laser for the removal of benign lesions, skin tags, sun spots and facial veins, cosmetically, without the need for excision and sutures. This class IV medical laser enables lesions to be safely removed without the increased risk of unsightly scars. The K Blue Laser also offers photobiomodulation (low level light therapy) to assist with the management of chronic and acute musculoskeletal pain, acne and wound healing.
” A Doctor providing services in the cosmetic industry, foremost importance is the assessment of each patient using the traditional medical model approach. Past and current medical conditions must be considered when offering any procedure, ensuring the treatment is compatible and / or suitable for the specific individual. Even though some procedures may be classed as cosmetic by the wider medical fraternity, I am fully aware of the impact on an individual that certain conditions may contribute to loss of confidence and self esteem. Having the opportunity to help a person through the journey of dealing with specific issues that cause them concern, is a privilege. A holistic approach enhances the desired outcome of a healthy mind, body and overall well being. ” – Dr Mary Liston
