Dermal Needling

Skin Needling For Healthier, Younger-Looking Skin

Dermal or skin needling is the perfect treatment for a variety of skin conditions, including acne scarring, stretch marks, fine lines, pigmentation, enlarged pores, blackheads and scarring.

Advanced skin needling (microneedling) promotes scarless healing and the deposition of normal woven collagen. It is similar to fractional laser treatments but without the side effects and downtime. It is also more effective than most microdermabrasion and chemical peels.

Skin microneedling results in healthier, smoother, plumper and more youthful-looking skin. The underlying action of this treatment stimulates a natural reaction in your skin to produce more collagen and elastin, as well as releasing growth factors to start a rejuvenation process.

More Information On Dermapen Skin Needling

Dermapen collagen induction therapy uses multiple fine needles that vertically pierce the skin with an automatic vibrating action.

This process creates fine channels in the skin, thus increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of treatments by allowing increased absorption of products, whilst reducing pain and discomfort. The channels can carry up to 80% more topical active nutrients, allowing for treatment delivery deep enough into the skin to feed the dermal cells and stimulate fibroblasts with subsequent repair and rejuvenation.

Other cosmetic clinics use ablative treatments, such as lasers like fractional and Yag, IPL, and medium chemical peels, that work on the whole skin. These treatments all have significant downtime from a recovery perspective. Our skin needling treatments involve only small penetrating dots, reducing downtime and patient recovery times.

Unlike traditional skin needling rollers, the Dermapen causes less trauma and has minimal epidermal (skin) damage, therefore reducing pain and discomfort, and making it a safer, more effective treatment. The disposable needles eliminate risk of cross- contamination, whilst the adjustable needle depths allow for a treatment tailored to your individual needs.

Skin needling is a more targeting and localised version of Derma rolling. Both treatments use tiny needles to penetrate the skin to varying depths in order to stimulate collagen renewal. This process is also known as Collagen Induction Therapy. Dermal rolling uses a small rolling device with fixed length needles that are used in larger areas, whilst the Pen can be used in small targeted areas or for full face rejuvenation. Micro skin needling can be performed safely on all skin types, ages and colours.

The concept of microneedling is to cause a controlled ‘injury’ to the dermis, which in turn stimulates the body’s natural collagen production as it begins the process of healing. Collagen takes approximately four to six weeks to regenerate. Over the course of a few weeks, your skin’s texture, laxity and fine lines and wrinkles start to improve and firm, leaving a more youthful and natural result.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Rejuvenation: four to six treatments, four weeks apart.
  • Acne scarring: six treatments, six weeks apart
  • Stretch marks: +/- 10 treatments, four to six weeks apart.

For optimal results, we recommend applying effective active treatment creams such as Vitamin A, C and anti-oxidants to allow the skin’s strength to build up (especially for thin or delicate skin areas). Continue to use these recommended solutions after treatment for a period of 6 weeks.

Typically, you will see results after the first treatment. Lasting and more significant results will occur after four to six treatments, as the effects are cumulative (spaced four to six weeks apart). Your skin will continue to improve over the next six to 12 months after a course of treatments and when combined with the recommended post-treatment care.

Time to take effect and longevity of treatment vary by individual.

For minimum needle depths, Dermapen treatments are painless.

A topical anaesthetic cream is applied for 30 to 40 minutes before any treatment over 0.5mm deep. This will render the treatment completely pain-free.

There is generally no down time after treatment. However, you may experience facial redness for 12 to 48 hours post-treatment.

Most people are able to return to normal daily activities immediately after the treatment. Application of breathable makeup will seal the skin and cover any redness for an immediate return to work.

It is recommended to leave at least 10 to 14 days after filler and two days after botulinum toxin injections so that any post-treatment bruising can settle.

Alternatively, have your Dermapen treatment one to two days before having your cosmetic injections.
