PDO Threads: Can They Help With Ageing Skin?

As you age your skin becomes laxer which causes fine lines and wrinkles to develop. The laxity hits the area around our nose and mouth the worse. However, PDO threads are a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment that can reverse the signs of loose skin on the face and neck.

What Are PDO Threads?

PDO is an abbreviation for polydioxanone which is a chemical compound that creates absorbable polymer threads that have flexibility and durability. The threads are used as a quick and efficient face lift. There are three types of PDO texture strands: screw, cog, and mono.

  • Mono: A single smooth suture that is used to anchor the face and create a small lift. This form of PDO threading is ideal for a fast and effective lift to create a more youthful appearance.
  • Cog: Threads with a barbed texture which provide a better lift and also encourage the skin to produce collagen for added fullness.
  • Screw: The screw threads consist of either one or two threads that are entwined to create added volume

PDO lifts offer face enhancements for the following area.

  • Expression/frown lines
  • Nasolabial lines
  • Sagging or lax skin
  • Loose jowls
  • Hollowness in the cheeks

How do PDO Threads Work?

The threads physically lift and tighten your skin. In addition, they encourage the body to start to heal itself which boosts collagen for a fuller, younger appearance. The skin’s subdermal tissues react to the chemicals in the PDO thread and start increasing collagen production along with elastin and hyaluronic acid. In time, the threads are absorbed by the body but the results of the renewed tautness and fullness remain.

How Long Does the PDO Thread Lift Take?

The thread lift takes about 30 to 60 minutes to complete.

PDO Thread Lift Process

Your skin is marked so the aesthetic technician has an idea of where to insert the threads and the direction needed to obtain the desired results. The insertion points are anaesthetised so you won’t feel anything. The threads are then attached to a cannula and the cannula is pushed into the tissue beneath the skin at certain predetermined points. Once in place, the thread is released when it has reached its particular area. The process will continue until the desired lift has been accomplished. Typically, it will take from one to 15 strands to achieve the desired results. After threading, the area is massaged so that the skin appears smooth and there is no dimpling.

Recovery After a PDO Thread Lift

Following a PDO thread lift, recovery is rapid. You can usually go back to your normal life and activity level within a week.

The goal of a successful PDO threads lift is to always reposition the facial and neck tissues so you have a rejuvenate and more youthful appearance. One treatment is usually all that is required to achieve the desired results.
