Why some of us age more gracefully than others?
Ever sit looking at your friends comparing their faces to your own and wondering why you ended up with so many lines and they seem to have so few lines?
The process of aging itself is multi-factorial. We will all see structural changes as a natural consequence of age. It is also determined, and for some unfortunately, through our genetics and inherited genes. It will also be determined by our ethnicity as through different populations the aging process is also considerably altered.
Aging Process
There are a number of processes that are occurring through aging, firstly bone re-absorption. The framework of the face is slowly changing. Fat and volume loss therefore create deficits in our cheeks and under our eyes and our peri-oral area (around the mouth area). There are muscular changes and skin changes which result in the reduction of elasticity and the ability of the skin to “snap” back into place. So you can see why aging becomes a complex process to treat and maintenance with ongoing treatments is key as it is a process that does not stop.
On top of this we have to include the environmental factors that impact our aging processes and in some cases speed up premature aging. These factors known as extrinsic influences on our aging process may come from excessive sun exposure, part of living in a wonderfully sunny country. Poor nutrition, the way you sleep and lifestyle choices e.g. smoking, the force of gravity all have an impact on the aging process. Not to mention the effect of gravity…..
Needless to say there are so many influences that play a part in our appearance and aging process; however we should never compare ourselves to others. Some begin to show signs of aging with grey hair and static lines in their 30’s while others still look amazing in their early 60’s due to their genetics, ethnicity or interventions!
We have the opportunity to be educated in the ways we can age with some control over the events of the process. It really comes down to when is the right time for you to seek intervention and we are there to help you to be more educated as to the choices that are on offer, that is our specialty.
